National Park Cape Kamenjak

The stunning Cape Kamenjak Park is Premantura’s most valuable treasure. It is about 3400 m long, 500 to 1.600 m wide, characterized by 30 km coastline, interesting coves as well as the specific sequences of hills and hollows. This wild landscape is home to over 570 plant species, of which 30 are protected.

In discovering the park be prepared for the adventure: white dusty roads lead to its beautiful seashore with mostly rocky beaches. The rocks might make the water entry challenging at first but the transparency of crystal clear sea will allow you to see diverse marine species. In the sunset of a low touristic season, it is even possible to admire the dolphins heading to the open sea. Islands near Kamenjak are the place where you can still see cows on pasture while on Fenoliga island the traces of dinosaurs that are 70 million years old.

You can enter the park on foot or by bicycle and enjoy cycling and pedestrian paths. You can decide to take the car in order reach the south end of the park but you will have to pay the entrance fee for the vehicle.

In case you need a refreshment or light lunch, all main bays have a beach bar, barbecue facilities and toilettes.

Here are the two most interesting trails we recommend:

"Dinosaur tail” is the favorite path of the children. They love the exposed dinosaur models in real size but most of all, they are amazed to see the authentic fossilized steps of the dinosaurs on the flat rock, indicating that these extinct reptiles acutely lived here in Kamenjak. The path is on the right side of the protected peninsula, merely 300 meters from the entrance. It is about 600 meters long and it ends near the Pinižule Cove.

"Nature trail" is located in the south part of the peninsula. It is suitable for everyone who wants to dedicate one hour and a half to discover the flora and fauna of the Kamenjak habitat. Illustrative tables with characteristics of local flora and fauna are available on the way.

According to Lonely Planet, Kamenjak is one of the most sought-after locations for a secluded holiday for both national and international visitors because of the feeling of solitude it imparts and because of its intact nature.
